Commissioning New Works

We support living composers by commissioning new works from established and upcoming composers. We performed our first commission, “Sing Me to Heaven” by Daniel Gawthrop, on Feb 4, 1991. “Sing Me to Heaven” quickly became a choral music best-seller.

Our latest commission is “Make Some Noise, Get In Trouble,” by Roland Carter. In collaboration with the Chorus America Commission Consortium, we were proud to honor the life of Congressman John Lewis in song.

Browse below to read about the composers we have supported in the last 3 decades.

  • "Alchemy" by Karen P. Thomas, premiered online on April 25, 2021, and in person on December 18 and 19, 2021, in Vienna. This piece was made possible by a Commission Consortium (of which Voce is a participant), sponsored by Chorus America.

"in the rain" by Stephen Caracciolo, premiered on April 15 and 17, 2016 in Reston and Vienna. This commission was made possible by the generous support of the Winter Skerritt Family.

Supporting Local Non-Profits

Starting in Fall 2020, Voce has partnered with local non-profits for each concert, connecting the musical theme with an important charitable focus. The result is exposing Voce audiences to local groups doing good work, and soliciting monetary or in-kind donations to support their cause. The following are organizations we have partnered with over the last few years.
