Welcome to Voce's 2007-2008 season, our 19th
year of superb concerts, outstanding voices and extraordinary repertoire! This season's concerts
will include:

TO ALL THE EARTH, PEACE

Sunday, December 16, 2007 at 4 pm

This holiday concert will feature the premiere performance of a new work commissioned by Voce, "Magnificat, We Sing" by renowned composer and arranger, Alice Parker. Voce will also sing some Christmas music (mostly a cappella) by composers of the 20th and 21st centuries: Franz Biebl, Morten Lauridsen, Kirby Shaw and others. The audience will be invited to sing along with some favorite Christmas carols. As always, a reception will follow each performance.

SONG FOR THE CHANGING SEASON

Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 8 pm
St John Neumann Church
11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, Virginia

Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 4 pm
St Timothy's Episcopal Church
432 Van Buren Street, Herndon, Virginia

The days between the beginning of February and the beginning of April are often filled with fatigue for the lingering winter and impatience for the beginning of spring. This concert looks at the calendars of the world, and finds all kinds of dates to celebrate with song: Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Valentine's Day, International Women's Day, Harriet Tubman Day, St. Patrick's Day, Purim, Easter, April Fools' Day, and more! March 21, 2008 alone is inspiration for several concerts of song: it is Good Friday, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Spring Equinox, and the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach.

For those who enjoyed last season's concert of the Shakespeare Songs of Matthew Harris, we will be repeating some that sing so magnificently about winter and about spring. And, as is often the case at a Voce concert, the audience will be invited to sing with us again.

A MUSICAL VISIT TO THE BRITISH ISLES

Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 8 pm
St John Neumann Church

Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 4 pm
St Timothy's Episcopal Church
432 Van Buren Street, Herndon, Virginia

The music of its break-away colonies, and therefore much of the music of the United States, has its origins in a rich musical history of the British Isles. The concluding concert of the 2007-2008 season will survey this legacy: from folk song to opera, from church to cabaret, and from pop song to motet. Music from England, Ireland, and Wales will be included, and again, the audience will be invited to sing with us.
